Nissan GT-R at starting lineup

20.05.2012 - Who had expected this: The Nissan GT-R wins the day in class SP8 at 24h race on the Nürburgring! At the same time it means an extraordinary 30. place in the overall ranking. Team director Martin Scheel: „That result is really remarkable given the very strong competitors like Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes und Toyota! The car has worked outstandingly well. The Team had done a great job preparing the racing car and during the race. That’s the only way to defy the large high-budget teams and to bring home victory.“

The team enjoys the victory

Lasting for weeks the Nissan GT-R has been build intensively for the race under the auspices of M2 Automotive. The racing car has been prepared particularly for the requirements of this world wide singularly endurance event. These requirements are very special and completely on the contrary to the sprint races like formula one or the German DTM. All expendable parts have to be designed for the utmost reliability and a quick removability. So the complete tyre sets had been replaced hourly and every 4 to 5 hours brake rotor discs and pads.

M. Scheel interviewed

The stability of the engine is more important than the top engine power. The quite ordinary production engine of the Nissan GT-R well equipped with powerful 580 hp and the production APS and ESP were used during the endurance competition. Especially the ESP in connection with the permanent four wheel drive facilitates the opportunity that the drivers could rival with the best teams during Sunday morning rain. The engine, which has not been tuned to maximum speed and power, thanked by moderate gas consumption, which allows longer stints and less fueling stops.

The main sponsor GT-Academy runs the vehicle in the context of their initiative to train younger interested people and introduce to motor sports carefully. Lukas Ordonez, who was one of four drivers on the Nissan GT-R, was full of praise for the car: „The Nissan GT-R is a completely other kind of vehicles than the LMP prototypes for Le Mans I usually run in parallel. But the car is perfectly set-up for the challenging and risky Nordschleife here at the Eifel. I’m still able to learn a lot here as a younger race driver.“
